76ers Unveil New (Old) Logo

Whether you call it a new logo or an old one the Philadelphia 76ers showed off the design that they will be using when the ball is tipped off at the beginning of the 2009-10 season. New coach Eddie Jordan and the team decided to go back to the glory days of the team and reuse the classic red, white, and blue basketball which the team used for so many years.

76ers logo.bmp The logo is the classic blue basketball with the red and blue 76ers inside all featured on a white background. This is the same color scheme and logo first used in 1963, which was also the same one used when the team won championships in 1966-67 and 1982-83. The modern logo that featured the black, silver, and gold is going by the wayside as the team hopes to return to its glory days with new personnel and a retro logo.

But of course it takes a whole lot more to win an NBA title than an old logo that was used before. The 76ers will need to draft someone that can step forward and begin leading the team. At this point Andre Miller is a unrestricted free agent and without him the team will have no leadership whatsoever on the court. But with their 17th overall pick in the draft the 76ers should be able to get a guard who can either play alongside Miller or potentially take over the team if Philadelphia cannot resign Miller.

Whoever is bringing the ball down the court the team feels that the return to the old logo and uniforms will bring the fans back to the stands to cheer them on. With retro jerseys and other Philadelphia 76ers merchandise filling the stands again there is hope again for a championship in the city of brotherly love.
